When can we wear contact lenses after keratitis?

Keratitis is an inflammation caused by the invasion of bacteria and viruses when the cornea has a wound. The specific manifestations are foreign body sensation and burning sensation, photophobia and tingling, more than tears, increased secretion and other symptoms. Obviously, contact lenses are absolutely prohibited during illness and treatment. So, after the keratitis is good, can you still wear contact lenses?

In corneal diseases, keratitis has the greatest impact on vision. Therefore, for patients with keratitis, contact lenses can only be used if they have to recover completely without any discomfort. Contact lenses can stimulate the cornea. Every blink of the eye will cause mechanical friction. If keratitis has just been cured, do not rush to wear contact lenses, it is best to observe for a period of time, waiting for the cornea to stabilize, in order to prevent the recurrence of inflammation.

However, it should be noted that even if the eye conditions allow, it is only occasionally worn, and the time of wearing each time cannot be too long. Wearing contact lenses for a long time is an important cause of bacterial keratitis. In the process of daily use, small abrasion and wound caused by lens or removal operation are not easy to be found. Under the condition of lack of oxygen and reduced resistance of cornea, the eyes are more vulnerable to bacterial invasion.

Improper wearing of contact lenses will also lead to corneal infection. Therefore, during operation, attention must be paid to disinfection and timely replacement of lenses. Moreover, brand products with good quality must be purchased, and never be greedy for cheap. In case of any discomfort in the eyes, it is necessary to stop wearing contact lenses immediately and go to the hospital for examination as soon as possible, so as to find and treat it early.
