Although the popularity of contact lenses is growing, public education on related knowledge remains insufficient. Many wearers fail to recognize the necessity of a fitting examination, often opting for random adjustments or fitting without proper inspection. In the end, not only do the lenses become unsuitable, but they also pose significant risks to their eyes. Today, we will focus on several key examination items before fitting a new pair of glasses.
1. Optometry and inspection. This is one of the very important basic examination, mainly to determine the current visual situation, whether there is myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, and through the optometry to obtain the accuracy number, determine the axis of astigmatism. This step is of great significance to ensure the matching degree, and can also truly restore the role of contact lenses to correct vision.
2. Corneal curvature examination. This is an important step to assess the corneal shape and base arc, and the curvature of the contact lenses varies. In order to fit to the eye as much as possible and improve comfort, the base arc of the eye must be consistent with the base arc of the lens.
3. Tear fluid examination. This is an important step in assessing the quality and quantity of tears, checking whether the wearer can have enough tears to maintain eye moisture. Because the lens needs a lot of tears to make up the water, the tears will also accelerate the evaporation after wearing contact lenses, so the lack of tears can only wear more and more uncomfortable.
4. Eye health examination. Doctors will use slit lamps, fundus cameras and other equipment to check the eyelids, iris, pupils and the fundus, the macular lesions can also be seen, for a comprehensive assessment of the health of the cornea, conjunctiva, lens, retina and so on, but also to detect conjunctivitis, keratitis, trachoma and other eye diseases.
5. Intraocular pressure examination. This examination is mainly to confirm the internal pressure in the eye and is an important step to exclude ocular diseases such as glaucoma. Because glaucoma patients have unstable intraocular pressure and some inflammation, it is not suitable for contact lenses.
Examination is indeed important, but it is even more crucial to have it conducted at a reputable ophthalmology hospital or an optician's shop. Through a series of examinations, we can determine whether wearing contact lenses is feasible and suitable for us. The doctor can also recommend appropriate parameters and allow us to try them on, experiencing the visual effects firsthand. Only then can we truly enjoy clear and comfortable vision.
